“The great WALL of HOSTILITY”

Let’s read Ephesians 2: 14 – 16

“For he himself is OUR PEACE, who has made the TWO GROUPS ONE and has DESTROYED THE BARRIER, the DIVIDING WALL OF HOSTILITY, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself ONE NEW HUMANITY out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to RECONCILE BOTH OF THEM to God through the cross, by which he PUT TO DEATH THEIR HOSTILITY.”

Here the Apostle Paul is talking about the hostility between the two most rival groups ever – Jews and Gentiles. This wall of hostility was built up by the commands and regulations of the law. The Jews separated themselves from the Gentiles with the law as an excuse. The law became more of a checklist rather than a guiding voice of God. The law caused a sense of pride for the Jews that led to their hostility towards the gentiles.

But the death of Jesus on the cross destroyed this great barrier once and for all.!! The great wall of hostility was shattered to pieces. Jesus himself is our peace. Amen..!!

Do you hate someone on the basis of their caste, culture, color, region, religion or denomination? Do you hate your neighbor just because he/she does not eat, clothe, behave or pray like you?? This sense of hostility is built up on the unwritten commands and regulations, hidden inside your heart. Jesus destroyed the greatest wall of hostility between the greatest rivals ever. He can destroy the dividing wall of hostility between you and your neighbor as well. Replace Jesus with the wall of hostility between you and your neighbor – you will become one body..!
