Let’s read 1 Timothy
5:8 & Joshua 24:15b in tandem
“… if anyone does not provide for
his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the
faith and is worse than an unbeliever”.
“…as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord”.
It is said “A family
that prays together, stays together”. Unity and like-mindedness can only be
brought about through prayer. When family members pray for each other, bonds
are made strong – bonds between the family members and bond with God. But,
prayer which is an earthly communication to heaven is not the only thing. Family
members need to provide for the spiritual needs of one another as well. Family
members need to nourish each other with spiritual food – The Word. First
receive the Word from God, and then live the Word out so you can be a doer
and not just a preacher of the Word.
After spending time in your
devotion and receiving the Living Word from God, if you do not provide the same
to your relatives, and especially
for members of your household you are not considered a faithful Christian. It is like
earning your bread for the day and not sharing it with your hungry family
members. Even an unbeliever knows that he is responsible to provide for his family’s needs. If you call yourself a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ,
then obey the Word and share it with your family members first before you share
it with the outside world.
Pray together – Stay together – Share together – Serve together..!!
